Mayor proclaims July ‘Park and Recreation Month’ in Enterprise

July 03,2023

On the first Monday of July, Mayor William E. Cooper, surrounded by members of the Enterprise Parks and Recreation staff, issued a proclamation declaring July “Park and Recreation Month” in the City of Enterprise.

“Parks, playgrounds, nature trails and open spaces make Enterprise an attractive and desirable place to live, work, play and visit,” Mayor William E. Cooper said. “Parks and Recreation activities touch the lives of individuals, families, groups and entire communities which positively impacts our city.”

The proclamation signing took place at the roughly 175-acre Johnny Henderson Park, one of the many parks in the City of Progress.

“You look at our beautiful park here in Enterprise and what we provide to our community and surrounding areas, it just gives us and everybody around us a great opportunity to enjoy quality of life,” Director of Community Services and Recreation Billy Powell said. “We couldn’t do this without the support of the city, Mayor Cooper and the City Council.”

Powell also gave credit to the hard-working members of the Enterprise Parks and Recreation department.

“We have a great crew. This park wouldn’t be where it is without them working hard daily to make sure everything stays well-kept for the public. We also have a great staff who organize, plan and execute events for the community to enjoy.”

Since 1985, people in the United States have celebrated Park and Recreation Month in July to promote building strong, vibrant and resilient communities through the power of parks and recreation.
