New zoning ordinance approved

City Council Tuesday unanimously approved a new zoning ordinance for the City of Enterprise.

“The new zoning ordinance simplifies the residential, commercial and manufacturing districts, while also expanding the capabilities in the districts,” Assistant Director of Engineering Thomas Hardy said. “This change includes better organization and simplified language, as well as updated concepts that were outdated.”

The zoning map also corrected improperly zoned areas, revamped old and added new overlay districts for state highways and the downtown area.

“Our goal was to make the entire document more user friendly and more easily understandable,” Hardy said. “I’d like to thank our planning commission, stakeholders, and citizens for their input in this monthslong process. We hope this updated zoning ordinance will serve the city well for years to come.”

The zoning ordinance was last updated in 2005.
