Water employees recognized for going the ‘extra mile’

Three members of the Enterprise Water Department were recognized at Tuesday’s city council meeting for their actions related to a water leak last month.

Supervisor Darrell Smith, Maintenance Worker Zachary Boutwell and Heavy Equipment Operator Morris Childs were recognized by Water Field Superintendent Alan Mahan.

A homeowner submitted the nomination after Smith, Boutwell and Childs attended to his property after hours. According to city staff, the homeowner appreciated how quickly the crew came out to make the repairs and was impressed by how they left his yard after all the digging they had to do.

“Darrell, Zachary and Morris are fine examples of the quality of work you can expect from members of the Enterprise Water Department,” Mahan said. “These men take pride in the work they do, as well as to make sure those who are impacted are taken care of. We appreciate the homeowner recognizing the level of care that went into this particular job and we hope this example ripples through the city.”

Smith and Boutwell were both awarded a plaque to commemorate the award.  Childs was awarded a city polo, as is customary for someone who has previously been awarded a plaque.
