Ashley Marshall sworn in as city attorney

February 06,2024

Mayor William E. Cooper Tuesday administered the Oath of Office for City Attorney Ashley Marshall during the city council meeting.

“Ashley is the epitome of a true public servant, and we are thrilled to have her serve in this new role,” Mayor William E. Cooper said. “She has experience representing municipalities and has already shown a level of dedication, commitment and support to our great city.”

Marshall, who was surrounded by her husband, J.B., and sons, Jace and Will, during the oath said she is delighted to be appointed to this role.

“I hope to continue representing the city with the same amount of dedication and integrity as our previous City Attorney Rainer Cotter,” Marshall said. Cotter previously served as the city attorney for 23 years.  He left the position last month to assist in his family’s business.  He continues to serve as a legal consultant for the city.

Marshall was sworn in as city prosecutor in September 2022 by Judge Paul Sherling.  She graduated law school in 2003 from the University of Alabama School of Law and earned her undergraduate from Auburn University in 1999.  Marshall has a private practice in Enterprise, Cranford Marshall Legal, LLC.
