The City of Enterprise will be highlighted Friday as WTVY brings its Hometown Tour to the City of Progress for the second year in a row.
Starting with the noon newscast, WTVY will broadcast live from downtown featuring stories specific to the latest news and events in Enterprise.
“It’s an ‘unbollweevilble’ opportunity to showcase Enterprise again this year as part of WTVY’s Hometown Tour,” Tammy Doerer, Director of Tourism and Community Relations said. “WTVY will feature everything we love about our city, from downtown to our parks, Weevil Way, and all of the growth and development you drive by every day.”
Enterprise Mayor William Cooper says the city has much to celebrate and he is always proud to share the accomplishments, especially in homes across the Wiregrass.
“We’re proud of our city, our businesses and the hard-working people that make up our community,” Cooper said. “All of our city leaders, me included, are grateful for the opportunity to show off the City of Progress.”
During the WTVY Hometown Tour, the second annual Boll Weevil Block Party will take place on East College Street in downtown Enterprise. The event, which features live music by Cornbread and Coconuts, food trucks, local shopping specials and activities from 3 to 8 p.m.
“We want to encourage everyone to come downtown for the Boll Weevil Block Party, to enjoy our entertainment district, and to sip as you shop our unique local vendors,” Main Street Executive Director Mariah Montgomery said. “We’ll have food trucks on site in addition to our downtown restaurants, so come hungry and plan to stay and enjoy the event.”
A new addition to this year’s event is the Boll Weevil Community Art Show and Competition. Participants were able to register ahead of time to enter their work. Tickets will be available to purchase for the public to vote for their favorite medium. Proceeds from the ticket sales will go toward the Main Street beautification project.
WTVY will also feature Johnny Henderson Family Park as a live location during the broadcast, which is the site of Enterprise Parks and Recreation’s Festival in the Park planned for Saturday.
“This is a great opportunity for us to give the community a sneak peek of what they can expect at this year’s Festival in the Park,” Enterprise Parks and Recreation Program Coordinator Krista Hooper said. “This event has grown and evolved since it started in 1999, and we hope that everyone will come out to celebrate. We have events and activities for all ages- from the inflatables and crafts, to pony rides and a petting zoo, live music and fireworks over the lake. There’s something for everyone.”
