Mayor William E. Cooper Wednesday declared January as “Human Trafficking Awareness Month” in Enterprise.
The mayor signed the proclamation surrounded by members of the Enterprise Police Department and Enterprise City Councilman Scotty Johnson.
“The City of Enterprise, Alabama is committed to ensuring that our community remains on the front lines in combating this deplorable crime,” Cooper said.
The proclamation noted that most victims of human trafficking are women and children and the first step to eliminating the problem is through educating others.
“We must work to ensure that all our residents are aware of this problem and how to spot it. We must work together as a community so that human traffickers are punished and to protect and assist their victims.”
January is recognized as National Human Trafficking Prevention Month and every year since 2010, the President has dedicated the month to raising awareness and educating the public.
