Field Training Officer Christopher Byrd and Police Officer Malcolm Hutchinson were each given a Police Chief’s Award for extraordinary service during the Enterprise City Council meeting Feb. 16. “They were nominated by a police investigator who said these two men needed to be recognized for a job well done,” said Enterprise Interim Police Chief Michael Moore about their response to a Sept. 26, 2020 shots-fired call. When one of the two gunshot victims in a vehicle at the scene was deemed too wounded to be removed from the vehicle, Hutchinson cared for the patient while Byrd drove the victim’s “dilapidated and bullet-ridden vehicle” to the hospital for medical attention. The men “exemplified outstanding and meritorious service putting the needs of another ahead of their own safety,” Moore said.
